Based on many years of corporate coaching, mentoring, facilitating and leading leaders, I realised that coaches only ask questions, mentors try hard to show and tell; but not many stop and ask how a leader is doing? Even when asked, it is less likely to generate a transparent answer for many reasons; trust, conflict of interest, questioning the appropriateness of such a conversation in-house. -First you talk and I listen:
You need to get things out of your chest. And that I can only listen. This doesn't mean I won't ask questions or have a conversation with you. There is a time for that as well.
First I need to understand where you are, and you need to tell me what you need.
-Then we get to work:
We work together on whatever topic you would like to focus on...be it a process design issue, someone you want to confront but don't know how, an issue that keeps recurring and you and your team can't seem to break the cycle.
